A Crown entity, NZQA helps maintain and build on New Zealand’s reputation as a high-quality education provider both locally and internationally. NZQA administers the National Certificates of Educational Achievement (NCEA) for secondary school students and is responsible for the quality assurance of non-university tertiary training providers.
NZQA’s Jemini journey started with a secondary procurement process to replace their end-of-life Pse Ascender (from vendor Cerdian) payroll. As support for the legacy Pse Ascender solution is being withdrawn in December 2023, this signaled an opportunity for NZQA to embrace a more innovative, people-centric approach to HR and Payroll.
Why did NZQA choose Jemini? It was important to the NZQA team to have a locally supported, proven, cloud-based HCM solution. And as NZQA are unique in that its usual year-round team of approximately 450-550 swells to over 6000-8000 employees and contractors during examination cycles, it was essential that any new solution could painlessly flex and grow to accommodate and manage the significant influx of staff resource. Jemini ticked all the boxes.
While implementing payroll and core HR is NZQA’s priority, ‘onboarding’ and other HR mega processes such as ‘performance’ will be iteratively adopted. The project will break new ground for NZQA, allowing it to work with Fusion5’s Jemini team to re-design its current people ecosystem (and vastly improve the user experience) while adopting future-facing innovations.
The project started in September and in the first stage payroll and core HR functions are expected to go live in mid-2023.
The strong cultural alignment experienced from the outset between NZQA, Fusion5 and the Jemini team has made this positive and focused project a delight to work on so far. We’re all excited to see the positive outcomes of this partnership.
